I’m a mom of 4 girls and a former professional race car driver.

In 2004 I was photographed for the cover of LA Weekly by one of the best AND worst photographers I’ve ever met.  How could a photographer with so much technical skill (commissioned by THE largest distributed mag in SoCal) be SO bad with people?  “Show me sexy” is the only direction he gave…

la weekly cover nadine hsuMy frustration with the rude LA Weekly photog (and many others after him) fueled a new passion in photography for me.  I wanted to photograph people and make them feel comfortable in front of the camera.  Why was it such a hard concept for most photographers to master?!

I launched Sachiko Studio in 2011 with the philosophy of “organic, fun photo sessions.”   I quickly found success and my bookings more than doubled every year.  I gave up my fancy career in accounting and became the top family & newborn portrait photographer in my area.

In 2012, I started leading photography 101 workshops for photographers and clubs at Honda & USC.

In 2015, I left the confines of my home office/bedroom/Starbucks and got an office in Arcadia.

In early 2016, I gave birth to my 4th daughter and doubled the size of my Arcadia location to accommodate a photo studio.

In the summer of 2017 I moved to our current location, which is triple the size of my old studio!

In the summer of 2018, I launched Sachiko Glam which is a fashion & boudoir studio catered to moms!

In 2019, I launched my YouTube Channel series where I produce videos that help my clients prepare for their photoshoots.  Also I launched my workshop series where I collaborate with a variety of creatives to make photo / creative workshops for parents.

Today, my daughters are 22, 11, 5 and 3.  In my household, I’m dealing with College, boyfriends, preschool, potty training, braces, and elementary school!!

I close the studio Fridays and most weekends to spend time with my daughters (and beloved husband/second shooter).

My husband & I pride ourselves on doing date night once a month to keep us balanced.

I’m still teaching women how to be bad-asses and race cars #forlife

Life is too short.  I’m living the dream!

Photo sessions should be fun and painless.  Sure you or your loved ones may hate the camera, but give me one chance to prove you wrong doll!

Do you worry your wild kids won’t hold still for a photo?  I have a bag of free swag for kids and 22 years of parenting experience to help combat these worries!  Some call me a child whisperer.

I am listed as the Best Family Photographer in Los Angeles by Peerspace (2019).

I’ve been hired to photograph over 800 portrait sessions, weddings & events and have made expertise.com’s “Best Newborn Photographers in LA list” for 4 years in a row (2016-current).

I’ve studied under some of the most bad-ass women photographers in the industry including:
Jasmine Star, Sue Bryce, Kelly Brown and Jen Rozenbaum.

My middle name (and my grandma’s name) is “Sachiko.”  In Japanese, it means happiness.

In the summer of 2017 I moved into my current studio in Arcadia.  The space boasts over 1300 square feet of awesomeness complete with a large client lounge with comfy seating, google chromecast, a 55″ tv, a stocked fridge and a kids play area.  In the studio area, you can find me shooting specialty photo sessions like children’s birthday cake smashes, milestone portraits, head shots and family portraits.  I was first a natural light photographer and still love to photograph in the beautiful outdoors.  I have the best of both worlds…a beautiful studio and a long list of beautiful outdoor locations to photograph my clients in.

I’m the ONLY newborn photographer in the area offering clients a choice of in-home OR in-studio newborn photography sessions.

My studio is known for having the latest and greatest in children’s prop trends from newborn, infant & toddler chairs, benches & stools, pennants, banners, confetti filled balloons, tutus, infant necklaces, crowns and designer knit newborn attire.

I love the Lakers!  I love optimism, great customer service, anything that will make my race car look girly and go fast, meeting new people, cherry blossoms, PIZZA, having an arsenal of MAC eyeshadow, haribo gummy bears, anything canon, target, an extra hot double tall zebra soy mocha with no whip, vintage purses, sex & the city, japanese washi paper, rose gold, kettle corn, running, typefaces, the color magenta and italian leather.

When I am not behind the camera, you can find me editing photos in my office with a baby on my lap, holding instructional workshops for aspiring photographers, or in the classroom, garage and track teaching aspiring woman race car drivers.  In my free time, you’ll find me at the spa, at home goods buying endless amounts of props, shopping on Amazon, watching reality shows, and spending time with my four beautiful daughters, Callista, Sabine, Elise & Kristy, and extremely supportive husband, Benson.  You can do anything you put your mind to, after all, you only get one take in life, make it count!
