When Yvonne and I were planning her session, the words “cool Mid-Century modern house” surfaced and my ears perked up like a curious puppy. A noteworthy session in the works indeed!!
Why at-home family sessions?
20% of my clients decide to invite me to their home for family portraits. Its a different, relaxed energy when you get to photograph people in their own space. The images captured at home are some of the most genuine, intimate and candid moments I could hope to capture.
Arriving to the Mid-Century Hideaway
On arrival, I toured Yvonne & Michael’s Mid-Century modern hideaway and was in a photographer’s paradise. High celings, floor-to-celing windows, gorgeous wood… We even went to the garage and planned shots of the kids with their Porsche (you know I love me some cars).
Last time we photographed Yvonne & Michael to celebrate their only child Madison’s birthday (pictured left) & Yvonne’s baby bump and THIS time, their newest addition, Joelle, was turning 1, so to add to my delight, we planned for a cake smash too.
On the “Sachiko Studio favorite things” list, this shoot checked most of those boxes: Mid-Century home shoot, cake smash, car shoot, documenting family growth. Check check check!
Here is what 2 hours with Yvonne & Michael’s beautiful family was like!

When you’re a godparent, great care and thought is put into a gift for your godchild. You may feel that a simple outfit or toy won’t suffice, after all, you love this child so much and you want to gift something from the heart!
Well, I have the best godchild gift idea ever for you!
What I’ve been seeing here at the studio is godparents thinking outside the box and gifting their godchildren (as well as nieces and nephews) photo sessions. This thoughtful gift is something a child will never grow out of or lose; its something the entire family can enjoy forever. Maybe that line was a little cheesy, but honestly, being a parent of 4 kids in the household, I know the gifts we remember and cherish the most are centered around unique, personal and won’t clutter my house up! A photo session? Check, check and check!
Alessandra’s Godmother gifts photo sessions to her each year.
I am thankful for thoughtful godparents like Liz who allow me to do what I love the most: documenting children’s growth over time. Maybe you should be thankful to Liz too for giving you the best godchild gift idea ever!!
Today, see Alessandra’s 2 gift sessions from newborn to her 1 year cake smash! Happy Birthday Alessandra!

The Deguchi family was one of the very first families I photographed when I opened Sachiko Studio 5 years ago. Proud grandma Kazuko 5 years ago had 1 grandchild…since then her 3 other daughters got married and she now has FOUR grandchildren! What a difference 5 years makes.
Here is a then and now photo of Kazuko and her oldest grandson Dylan (blog entry from their previous session):
I was looking through my old archives and I also did a session with just Dylan that same year, my has he grown!
I returned to Kazuko’s beautiful Japanese garden at her home to photograph her FOUR grandchildren along with 3 out of 4 of her daughters. Her beautiful daughters gifted her this “we love grandma” session for her birthday. I loved coming back and meeting the new additions to the family. Sessions like these, when I get to re-visit families and see how they’ve grown, warm my heart and remind me why I started Sachiko Studio in the first place! These sessions also remind me of how far the studio has come since then!
